Custard cake
Hanno's grandma made this custard cake - it's easy and delicious!
4 eggs, separated
50 ml cold water
1 c sugar
1 ml salt
25 ml cornflour
1 c flour
2 ml baking powder
Mix egg yolks, water and sugar very well. Sift dry ingredients and fold into mixture. Last, beat the egg whites until stiff and fold in.
Bake 20 minutes in 2 tins at 180 degrees. Turn out, allow to cool and cut each layer in 1 so you have a 4 thin layer cake.
Filling:
1/2 c butter
200 ml castor sugar
2 c milk
100 ml custard powder
12.5 ml sugar
5 ml vanilla
Make a thick custard from milk, custard powder and white sugar. Keep stirring until it is cool.
Cream the butter and castor sugar together very well. Mix into the custard mixture and add vanilla.
Spread between the cake layers and on top.
